(DEL VALLE, Texas) Del Valle ISD (DVISD) held its annual new teacher luncheon on Friday, Aug. 11, at the Circuit on the Americas (COTA) to introduce the new teachers to the Del Valle district and gave our overall teachers of the year a moment to share their inspirational experiences in the classroom.
The 2016-2017 teachers of the year shared their experiences, stories and successes that made them exemplary from the previous school year. This year’s overall Elementary Teacher of the Year was Maria Luisa Fernandez from Baty Elementary School, and the overall Secondary Teacher of the Year was Leslie Daughtry from Daily Middle School.
Along with the new teachers, other attendees were Del Valle ISD Education Partners, DVISD Board of Trustees, campus principals and the executive cabinet members.
“Our new teacher luncheon is an exciting time for us to introduce our new teachers to the entire Del Valle district with a bus tour to get a visualization of where our students come from and familiarize themselves with the area,” Superintendent Kelly Crook said. “Showing the new teachers the Del Valle area will allow them to fully grasp the community, which will help make a difference in their students’ success.”
The luncheon concluded with a district bus tour around the DVISD area for new teachers. The luncheon was held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Velocity Lounge at COTA.
