(DEL VALLE, Texas) – On August 22, Del Valle ISD will hold its annual convocation at the high school gymnasium. The theme of convocation this year is “We Believe” and will focus on student Fine Arts Performances.

Senator Judith Zaffirini will also be present to recognize five Del Valle teachers as recipients of the Teachers’ College Student Loan Debt Grant. This program, funded by Carlos Zaffirini Jr., CEO of AHCV, in honor of his mother, provides grants to subsidize student loans. The locally developed criteria required the applicants to have student loans and to be Del Valle ISD graduates with at least five years of teaching experience.

U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett will also address the Del Valle ISD staff. An advocate of education, Doggett opposed the erosion of state and federal aid to education and worked to remove financial barriers so that Del Valle graduates can get more education with Pell Grants and by authoring his successful $14 billion “More Education” tax credit.

This year’s convocation also welcomes Interim Superintendent Dr. Annette Tielle Villerot to provide opening remarks to the entire Del Valle ISD staff of almost 1800 employees.

The event begins at 2:00 in the Del Valle High School gymnasium located at 5201 Ross Road, Del Valle, TX.
