On Tuesday November 12, World War II Veterans and students who attended the Soaring Valor Trip will be recognized at the Del Valle ISD Board Meeting. In September, a group of 41 Del Valle High School students joined 35 World War II Veterans for the Gary Sinise Foundation’s Soaring Valor Program. The group went to New Orleans for a three-day visit to the National WWII Museum. A send-off ceremony took place at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport before the group’s flight to New Orleans, featuring a performance from DVHS student Trey Washington.
The high school students selected for the trip were representatives from a variety of student organizations and clubs. Each student was paired with a WWII veteran, providing an opportunity for the students to gain perspective and learn about the experiences of WWII on a personal level.
At a pre-board meeting dinner, the Popham Elementary Choir will be performing a patriotic melody of songs including an original composition written by Director Jediah Gonzales called “Veterans Thank You.” Additionally, 93 year-old WWII Navy vet Lyle Bird will be performing with his melodica.
The Board meeting begins at 6:30 in the high school auditorium. The dinner is at 5:15PM in the ninth grade cafeteria.
