Del Valle ISD is celebrating history, culture and accomplishments during Black History Month with activities, performances, and speeches district-wide throughout the month of February. These events provide students the opportunity to delve into history and connect issues from the past to current issues making history more relevant to the students’ current day lives.

The president for Austin’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NCAAP), Nelson E. Linder, will serve as the keynote speaker during the Del Valle Elementary and Middle School campus-wide Black History Assemblies. The Del Valle Elementary School assembly will take place on Tuesday, February 18, starting at 8:00 a.m. and the Del Valle Middle School assembly will take place on Friday, February 21, starting at 2:00 p.m.

In preparation for his visits, Linder stated, “History is more than remembering the past. History is connecting our past to our present and future, with the intent and purpose of creating a better world for humankind.”
