Students in the Top 10 of the Del Valle High School Class of 2020 were recognized May 1st with surprise visits to notify them of their class rank. With school buildings closed for the remainder of the academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ceremonial notifications were made by individual home visits. DVHS administrators previously coordinated the schedule with parents to make the visits possible.

Observing social distancing, administrators presented each student with a yard sign noting their status in the Top 10, graduation cords. stoles, and a cookie with their numerical rank. Many of the families added to the celebration with their relatives, balloons, snacks, and more for their students. One family tricked her daughter to put on her prom gown for the celebration.

“The Cardinal family is a proud group and no matter what the circumstances we will celebrate our students,” said DVHS Principal Joseph Welch, “Today we visited each of our Top 10 students to celebrate with them and their families. It was an honor and pleasure to share their special moment.”

The entire Del Valle High School Class of 2020 will be honored during a virtual graduation on June 6 at 10:00 AM. Pending local and state health guidelines, Del Valle High School scheduled an in-person graduation in August.
