May 1st is Annual School Lunch Hero Day. It is intended to showcase the difference school nutrition professionals make for every child who comes through the cafeteria. Since DVISD provides meals during closure on Monday-Thursday, the district is celebrating it today, April 30th. DVISD employees were asked to wear their favorite superhero costume. To recognize the employees who provide meal services, district leadership and board members will be addressing and providing cupcakes to transportation, maintenance, Child Nutrition Services and the volunteers. For lunch, Sodexo is providing a barbecue meal for the employees.
“It is wonderful that we can recognize our employees who arrive daily as early as 4:30 in the morning with the sole intention of ensuring that our kids are provided with meals,” said Director of Child Nutrition Services, “this truly is why we are DVProud.”
Every Thursday, 27,768 meals are prepared across 5 campuses, equating to 16.2 tons of food and milk. Monday through Wednesday, a breakfast and lunch is provided. On Thursday, three days of meals are provided. To date, the district, has provided over 300,000 meals since the closure. Meals are provided at campuses and on bus routes from 8-11.
